In Term Two, we focused on the topic Black History. We explored the different key movements and people in Black History and we created posters and fact files.
We had a very exciting workshop led by Siemens where we were given a challenge to create a train using a shoe box. We measured the different components, used saws to cut sections and stuck it together using hot glue! Once we were done, we decorated them as a team and then tested the speed and braking system using a ramp! It was lots of fun and the children worked so well in teams!
In English, we tried something a little new. We were looking at trees and how they are good for the planet and to help us with our writing, we decided to debate the question, "Should trees be used for human gain?" Each team came up with a plan for "for" and "against". We then got in groups and debated our sides! The children did an amazing job and were very persuasive on both sides of the argument!
In DT, we finished our sewing project. We started off with two pieces of square fabric. We painted them in bright colours and patterns inspired by Ndebele art, using masking tape and acrylics. We then took the two pieces and sewed them together using a running stitch. We finally then used some cotton to fill them and we created small cushions!
In the week running up to the Christmas break, we created some Christmas cards and pictures inspired by a Poem about a Robin using pastels. All of the children’s work came out brilliantly!
