In Term one of Year 5, the topic we focused on was World War one. We explored this in many subjects across the curriculum, including History, DT and Geography. In DT we created mechanical toys designed to show the battlefield and soldiers. We used wood, saws and hot glue to bring the toy to life!

For PE, we learnt how to play tennis by practicing our serving techniques and by playing some competitive game. We started to show lots of confidence in using backhand as well as forehand to hit the ball. We also practiced our communication and team work skills in our second PE session by completing team games and obstacle courses that involved blinds folds and instructions! In Term 1, we also had the brilliant opportunity of having a Karate Teacher come to school to teach us. The children had a wonderful time showing their ready stances and blocking skills.

For our English, created some lovely pieces of art inspired by a poem called, "The Magic Box". The poem talks about a large wave and we decided to represent this using tear art. We used Hokusai's piece, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" as inspiration by sketching out the shape and then gluing on lots of paper. We also tea stained the paper to give it a nice effect!
