It’s been a great first Term of the school year for 3/4GS!
We started with an Art activity to create magical marbled effects linked to the poem, The Magic Box. The class smelt lovely after plenty of shaving foam was used!
Science learning included the creation of food chains and knowing what producers and consumers were. We really enjoyed eating some school-grown producers in the form of plums.
Antarctica was the Topic theme of the term and we really enjoyed sculpting penguins and other Antarctica animals out of clay.
Latvia was our focus country for European Day of Languages and we learnt more about the country along with having a go with singing the Latvian equivalent of the Brother Jacob song.
In English, we learnt skills this term such as the correct use of the apostrophe and using expanded noun phrases in our writing. The classroom was in a bit of a mess one day and we had to clear things up by sorting out the apostrophes for contraction – that was a fun active learning session! We even enjoyed a ‘trip’ to the moon via a space shuttle to help us write a diary entry using English skills.
Maths learning this term included the introduction of lots of new Maths words including different types of triangles and different types of quadrilaterals. We are continuing to improve our times tables recall – still plenty of time for the Year 4s to get them perfectly and quickly recalled for their MTC next year.
Throughout Term 1, we’ve been embracing our school value, Keep Learning, and this has led to us learning how to use BSL to communicate with others. There’s been lots of ‘Thank yous’ and ‘You’re welcome’ communicated using BSL throughout the school days!
We can’t wait for Term 2 to begin when we will start the Ancient Egypt topic!
